As part of my new green image - i bought a new bike and took the train to manchester with my bike
My observations,
1 £11 return journey - maybe a little expensive - should be £5?
2 No where to put the bike on the train, thus blocked the walk ways
3 only one other bike on the return journey
It is not rocket science, but a carriage should be available for all bikes to store them, cheaper fares (but we know that anyway!) and if we did this prior to the congestion charge in manchester it may make the transition easier

i've never understood why crewe-manchester more expensive than crewe-liverpool!
it takes about the same time and is about the same distance...
i can remember when bikes were put in the guards van on trains (and no, that wasn't the steam era). you'd think that in these days of mass awareness of climate change, bikes on a train would be a lot easier.
It doesn't even take much room at the end of each carriage, enough for a couple of bikes and it'd be great. ...but that wouldn't make as much money would it.
Travelling green is a great idea, but it has to be practice.
